The Aveda Fashionista Competition is a photographic event that showcases the creative talent of Aveda Artists from all over the world. This year’s competition began in May 2016 when Aveda Artists began submitting their hair and makeup fashion looks based on their trend predictions for Autumn/Winter 2016. Submissions were judged on the total look, including hair cut, hair color, hair style and makeup

Here, we get to know Svetlana:

Living Aveda: What inspired you to enter the competition, and to create this stunning look?
Svetlana Kononova: Fashionista is a unique contest and an amazing opportunity to express yourself through your vision of seasonal trends and Aveda’s mission and products. For my look, I was inspired by men’s fashion, classical cutting techniques and the art of barbering. In terms of color, I used Aveda Full Spectrum™ Color and Enlightener™ Protective Toners to create a color that reminds me of the serene brightness of sunshine on winter mornings. I matched this with shades of honey-copper— all hues that I predicted as the trends for the season.

LA: Tell us about your technique for the cut and style?
SK: I created a classic bob by cutting with one length higher than the neckline using clippers on dry prepped hair. I then did a short-cut fringe with natural distribution and no angle.
To style, I used the Confixor™ Liquid Gel on wet hair from top to bottom and styled according to the hair’s natural growth creating the movement with hands. I then finished the look with Control Force™ Firm Hold Hair Spray.

LA: What would you say to other artists who want to share their work, but are afraid to do so?
SK: Don’t be afraid! It’s a great opportunity to express your artistic ideas and to go beyond the work of every day salon life. Entering the Aveda Fashionista Competition is an important decision to breakthrough to the next level as an artist. The competition is absolutely not about to be the winner, but instead about the preparation process. It motivates you to work harder and keeps you closer to the aesthetics of current trends.

LA: What inspires you as an artist, and what’s next for you?
SK: Everything inspires me, from love and passion to fashion, and simply to what I am doing as an Aveda Artist on a daily basis— that’s a big source of my inspiration. Working with Aveda has been such an honor. This unique brand won my heart with its philosophy, mission, sincerity and its absolute quality of products and service level. Within this short period of time Aveda has provided me with great professional support and motivation!

For the makeup of Svetlana’s look, she used the following products: On the face, Inner Light™ Mineral Tinted Moisture Braid Spectrum SPF 15 in Beechwood; and Inner Light™ Mineral Dual Foundation in Aster. On cheekbones, Inner Light™ Pressed Powder in Cream; and Petal Essence™ Face Accents in Apricot Whisper. On eyes, Petal Essence Eye Definer in Night Ivy; Petal Essence™ Eye Color Trio in Copper Haze; and Mosscara in Earth. Lips, defined with Petal Essence™ Eye Definer in Cacao; Nourish-ment™ Smoothing Lip Color in Blackberry.
